Dog Days of Summer
It was definitely the dog days of summer in the Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic artroom August 28. Anabel, a friend to puppies and dogs everywhere, received a puppy party at the end of her treatment. Patients crafted fancy dog head wear. A contest was held for the best doggie bark, doggie tail wag and best doggie beg. Treats included human food and yummy paw cupcakes. In her honor, the American Veterinary Association proclaimed it Anabel's day. Everyone clapped, barked, howled and cheered when Anabel rang the bell signaling the end of her chemo treatment! We all had a dog-gone good time!

OCCA Fourth of July
Patients and volunteers flew to Libertyville, USA on July 3! Patients and volunteers met their friends from Southwest Airlines in the Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic on Tuesday. Suitcases in hand we received our boarding passes from friendly stewardesses. We climbed aboard the Libertyville jet, fastened our seat belts, received fun gift bags from the Southwest Crew and laughed and cheered for our captain as he flew the jet high in the sky. We enjoyed a smooth and quick ride to Libertyville thanks to our great Captain.
We were given the keys to the city by the mayor of Libertyville, Skip Tangner. Miss Libertyville, Yvonne Starling, delighted us with her beautiful voice and patriotic songs. We sang songs, ate red white and blue cupcakes and made patriotic pin wheels, The firemen of fire station No. 6 came by and showed us their fire engine. They let us climb inside the big fire truck. We imagined speeding to a fire, sirens roaring!
By now you can probably guess our little trip to Libertyville was just pretend, but it was the perfect distraction and perfect place to visit on Tuesday, July 3rd, if only in our imaginations!
Come visit the craft room any Tuesday during the summer, you will never know where we'll be flying next!

Pipe Cleaner Official Record
YES! It is official! The Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic artroom received news the end of July that we have officially set the record for the longest heart shape, pipe-cleaner chain! Patients, family, volunteers and friends worked many months twisting and bending pipe-cleaners into heart shapes, then connecting them all to form the longest heart shape, pipe-cleaner chain! The official certificate was shown to the patients, family and staff at the clinic on Tuesday August 21st. We are all very proud of our effort! No telling what record we might set next!
