Dog Days of Summer
It was definitely the dog days of summer in the Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic artroom August 28. Anabel, a friend to puppies and dogs everywhere, received a puppy party at the end of her treatment. Patients crafted fancy dog head wear. A contest was held for the best doggie bark, doggie tail wag and best doggie beg. Treats included human food and yummy paw cupcakes. In her honor, the American Veterinary Association proclaimed it Anabel's day. Everyone clapped, barked, howled and cheered when Anabel rang the bell signaling the end of her chemo treatment! We all had a dog-gone good time!

OCCA Fourth of July
Patients and volunteers flew to Libertyville, USA on July 3! Patients and volunteers met their friends from Southwest Airlines in the Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic on Tuesday. Suitcases in hand we received our boarding passes from friendly stewardesses. We climbed aboard the Libertyville jet, fastened our seat belts, received fun gift bags from the Southwest Crew and laughed and cheered for our captain as he flew the jet high in the sky. We enjoyed a smooth and quick ride to Libertyville thanks to our great Captain.
We were given the keys to the city by the mayor of Libertyville, Skip Tangner. Miss Libertyville, Yvonne Starling, delighted us with her beautiful voice and patriotic songs. We sang songs, ate red white and blue cupcakes and made patriotic pin wheels, The firemen of fire station No. 6 came by and showed us their fire engine. They let us climb inside the big fire truck. We imagined speeding to a fire, sirens roaring!
By now you can probably guess our little trip to Libertyville was just pretend, but it was the perfect distraction and perfect place to visit on Tuesday, July 3rd, if only in our imaginations!
Come visit the craft room any Tuesday during the summer, you will never know where we'll be flying next!

Pipe Cleaner Official Record
YES! It is official! The Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic artroom received news the end of July that we have officially set the record for the longest heart shape, pipe-cleaner chain! Patients, family, volunteers and friends worked many months twisting and bending pipe-cleaners into heart shapes, then connecting them all to form the longest heart shape, pipe-cleaner chain! The official certificate was shown to the patients, family and staff at the clinic on Tuesday August 21st. We are all very proud of our effort! No telling what record we might set next!

Art Show Update!
Art with A Heart March 3, 2007
Each year volunteer artists work one on one with-our young patients to help them find their creative spirit. In February, the young artists will share their work at a special showing at the Oklahoma Museum of Art. The Oklahoma City/Edmond Tri Delt Alumni Chapter sponsors this event. It is an evening of great fun, food and excitement . The young artist/patients are chauffeured from the Jimmy
Everest Cancer Clinic by limo to the Oklahoma Museum for Art in downtown oklahoma City. The young artists have fun dressing up and walking the red carpet.
They take center stage for the evening, not as cancer patients but as budding artists. Family and friends join in and are there to see the excitement of their child as bidding on their paintings get higher and higher. The evening ends with patrons taking home beautiful pieces of art and a feel good feeling. Patients are so proud to have sold a painting for such a good cause. All proceeds from this event fund the Jimmy Everest Art Room Happy Space Art Place.
Art Show Update!
A special red carpet was rolled out at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art March 3, 2007. Cameras clicked! Parents and friends cheered as the special artists arrived! The girls were beautiful and the guys looked dapper as they smiled for the camera. TRi Delt did a wonderful job! The children talked about their art, enjoyed delicious refreshments and had a wonderful time in the spot light! The Art Museum was packed with well-wishers, family and friends.
Guinness World Record
If you have been in the art room, looked up to the ceiling and wondered what are all those pipe cleaners there for...Get ready for a world record event!
The patients in the Jimmy Everest Cancer Clinic Art Room are trying to set the record for the longest heart shape pipecleaner chain! Yes, you heard us right. We are busy making chains of pipe-cleaner hearts and will hopefully set the record of the Longest Heart shape Pipe-Cleaner chain of Love. We will physically surround the OU Health Science Center on Valentines Day, 2007 with the record breaking
chain. Can’t you feel the chain chain chain of love. Hopefully, patients, volunteers, nurses, and med students will be there to help support this huge chain of love. Would you like to help?
Update on World’s Longest Heart Shape Pipe Cleaner Chain of Love.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2007, the OU Health Science Center was officially wrapped with love! It may have been the coldest and windiest day of the year yet, but warm hearted volunteers wrapped the building 4 times and still had enough pipe-cleaners to drape it several more times. The love continued into the hospital foyer and up the stairs. Dr. Meyer spoke eloquent words, songs were sung, and a helicopter hovered over and documented volunteers holding the heart shape pipe cleaner chain. We are awaiting the official ruling from the Guinness World Record people to see if we OFFICIALLY set the Record for the longest Heart Shape Pipe Cleaner Chain. ( Incidentally, It took 38,556 pipe cleaners to wrap the Center 4 times.) |
